Wellness Wednesday: Awareness

Welcome! How are you?

Take a moment to notice being here, wherever here is, and how you are being, in your body, in your mind, in your environment, in this moment. Just notice, don’t judge, bring your attention to your being with a non-judgemental awareness.

Check in with a quick body scan. Simply notice the position of your body~ head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, back, legs, feet, toes. Sense the pressures and textures of the fabrics and surfaces. Feel the air passing in and out with each breath.

Last week 8 dimensions of wellness were introduced. There are variations that choose 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 components. Regardless the model or concept of achieving happiness and well-being the starting point, the one important foundation is awareness.

Take a look at the various realms of your world, your existence. Notice how you are being a being in life. With self-awareness we discover ourselves in our surroundings and become more alive.

Working more efficiently with ourselves and one other we make the world a better place and become Happier Healthier Humans!

Wellness Wednesday

Welcome to Wellness Wednesday for Happier Healthier Humans!

What is wellness?

“…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
– The World Health Organization

“a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential.”
– The National Wellness Institute

Involving more than just “being without illness” health and wellness include a sense of well-being and a positive quality of life.

In order to acheive these qualities and become happier healthier humans we need to take a moment to consider the connection and influence of all the varied aspects of our lives, the puzzle pieces of our big picture.

There are eight dimensions of wellness: emotional, occupational, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual. Each dimension of wellness is interrelated with another.

  • Emotional: The ability to express emotions with comfort in a healthy manner. Understanding your feelings and coping effectively with stress.
  • Occupational: A personal satisfaction and enrichment of one’s life through work. Job, career, talents…what you do and how it affects you.
  • Spiritual: Ability to seek meaning and purpose in one’s daily life. A set of values to help guide you be they achieved via relaxation, religion, or simply contemplation.
  • Environmental: Influence/impact of external environment and ability to improve conditions. Avoiding toxicity and adopting a lifestyle that is respectful of our selves in our surroundings.
  • Financial: Money plays a critical role in our lives and not having enough of it impacts health as well as performance. Financial stress is repeatedly found to be a common source of stress, anxiety and fear. Too much or too little and anywhere in between, how you relate to money and how money affects you and your life.
  • Physical: Maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle. Appreciation of one’s own physical being. Exercise, eating well, getting enough sleep paying attention to the signs of illness and providing proper care.
  • Social: Interpersonal interactions. Ability to perform social roles effectively and comfortably, and create a support network with trust and boundaries. The relationships we have and how we interact with others.
  • Intellectual: Learning and development. Using reasoning to make healthy decisions. Having an open mind, encountering new ideas and continuing to expand your knowledge.

WHO (World Health Organization) has also described “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

Working more efficiently with ourselves and one other we make the world a better place and become Happier Healthier Humans!

2 the 4th

“For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.
Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us.
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.
You must feel the Force around you;
here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes.”

– Yoda

“Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate.
Hate leads to suffering.”

– Yoda

Do… or do not. There is no try.

– Yoda

“May the Force be with you”
